Young Benjamins (Saskatoon, Sk)
Young Benjamins hail from the prairies of central Canada. The band is comprised of Neusha Mofazzali, Veronique Poulin and Brynn Krysa. Young Benjamins combine contemporary folk and rock with a subtle dose of pop, creating a sound that is infectious, distinct and refreshing. The group has had the opportunity to perform at festivals such as Hillside Festival, Sled Island, Regina Folk Festival, Ness Creek, SaskTel Jazz Fest, POP Montreal and festivals abroad such as; THE GREAT ESCAPE, Liverpool SOUND CITY and Reeperbahn Music Festival. The groups live show and compelling stage presence has begun to attract some very positive attention for the young band, referred to by some as Saskatchewan’s “indie folk darlings”.
In their relatively short career to date the band has shared stages with; Wintersleep, The Wooden Sky, Rah Rah, Wilderness of Manitoba, Del Barber, Hey! Ocean, Shotgun Jimmie, July Talk, Pokey LaFarge, and John K. Samson to name a few. They performed at the 2012 Regina Folk Festival supporting Austra and Stars. Young Benjamins have recently gained exposure from CBC with their new single "Beware Of Me", they were featured on CBC's DNTO with Sook Yin-Lee
Young Benjamins released a three song EP titled "Bones" in 2011 that made a strong impact in their home province of Saskatchewan. Their debut LP, "Less Argue", was released on May 21st, 2013 under Dollartone Records. The album is comprised of 11 original tracks that were recorded in Saskatoon at Avenue Recording Co. and mastered in Athens, GA by John Keane (Cowboy Junkies, REM, Indigo Girls). The ensemble will be releasing a well anticipated new album in the spring of 2016, 4 years after the release of LESS ARGUE
With The Birds (Regina, Sk.)
Formed in the Fall of 2014, With the Birds offers a refreshing approach to prairie-born music. They have an aggressive, intricate, and perfectly matched rhythm section, as well as guitar parts that are riddled with addictive riffs and chord-work that is a unique blend of funk, jazz, and indie rock elements. The young group emanates the feeling of a turn-of-the-millennium garage band, but delivered in a less chaotic and more groove-driven package.
Their first release, the "Speck of Dust" EP, came out in January 2015 after a productive initial writing process, followed by the single "Masquerade" w/accompanying music video. They are due to release their second EP by the end of February 2016.
